Weekend Recap-Saldana Victorious in Pevely
KKR Weekend Recap-Saldana Victorious in Pevely
Saturday, April 17
• Joey Saldana raced for the third time since having 10 screws and a
plate inserted into his broken left hand. He lined up 13th at the high-banked
1/3-mile bullring in Pevely, Mo. before a huge crowd and took the lead on a
double file restart with just five laps remaining.
• It was Saldana’s second consecutive win at I-55 Raceway and his third
career at the track with the World of Outlaws. He now has three A-Feature wins
this season and is currently second in points, just 17 markers behind current
leader Jason Meyers, as each chases their first World of Outlaws title. Along
with winning, Saldana also earned the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award for
passing the most cars during the A-Feature.
• Saldana took the lead on a lap-36 double file restart as he lined up on
the low side of the track after leader Craig Dollansky chose the high side. One
final restarted awaited Saldana on the next lap, which saw him choose the low
line for that restart aboard the Budweiser Maxim, making him the only driver all
night that chose to restart down low on a double file restart of which there
were a total of four.
• KKR’s Brad Sweet started the night off strong, finishing second in the
first heat. Sweet came home 11th in the main event after battling some engine
issues.
• Paul McMahan got caught up in an accident in the main event, relegating
the Great Clips Maxim to a 20th-place finish. McMahan remains ninth in the point
standings.
On Deck
The World of Outlaws return to action on Saturday, April 24 at Tri-State
Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana.
Saldana Quotes
“That was a great race car and a great race. The entire team put in an amazing
effort. I don’t know what to say. I’m glad to be in Victory Lane.
It was really tough running the cushion and I didn’t want to wear myself out.
The car was working very good on the bottom and I just wanted to stick with it.”
Sweet Quotes
“It was a tough night for the 49 team, but a great night for Joey and those
guys. We were going pretty good at the start of the race and then we struggled

• Joey Saldana lined up 10th on Friday night and quickly worked his way
up to fourth by the fourth lap. By the eighth go-around he was running third and
he got around Jason Meyers for second on a restart on the 12th lap. On the final
restart of the race with 10 laps to go, Saldana was able to get around Jac
Haudenschild as the pair headed to turn three, but in turn four Haudenschild got
back by and officially was scored the leader at the line.
• For Saldana, it was his second race competing with 10 screws and a
plate in his broken left hand. He finished 10th last weekend and has now
finished among the Top-10 in all but one race this season.
• Saldana moved up to second in points, and is 32 markers behind Jason
Meyers as he chases his first World of Outlaws title aboard the Budweiser Maxim.
Saldana began the night by turning the fastest lap in time trials for the second
consecutive year at Paducah.
• KKR’s Brad Sweet continued his impressive run in the World of Outlaws
Series. He piloted the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper to a seventh-place finish
after qualifying fourth.
• Paul McMahan qualified sixth, but struggled during the main event and
finished 14th.
Saldana Quotes
“I was thrilled with that. I kind of set my expectations like the other weekends
and get good solid finishes. We had a really good car. Actually, my car was
better than I was. We’ll just go from here and hopefully tomorrow we can run
just as good.
“I have a really doctor back in Indianapolis, Dr. Hastings (when asked about his
broken hand). “They have a really good rehab program as well. They work on it
two hours a day every day. This week I got cortisone. After last week it hurt so
much, they thought I needed that. It made a world of difference, but I’m sure
I’ll feel it on Sunday.”
Sweet Quotes
“We qualified well then had a little problem in our heat and we weren’t able to
make the dash so we had to start 11th. We had a pretty good car and I was able
to get up to seventh. It was a good night for the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper
Team. “
