Dirt Solution Late Models begin thrilling 2010
Red Hawk championship this Saturday

PLACERVILLE, CA – This Saturday night will mark the first
round of competition for the fire breathing Dirt Solutions Late Models division
in the 2010 Red Hawk Casino Championship season at Placerville Speedway. While
the event will boast three exciting divisions in the event presented by Hoosier
Tires- Pepsi Cola and Riebes Auto Parts the Late Model class is one that looks
to be picking up right where it left off last year.
Saturday night the roster will be led by Defending Track champion Jerry Bartlett
of Yuba City. A self proclaimed master of controversy, Bartlett recently
announced he will return to the quarter-mile clay oval to defending the most
championship on his racing resume. In 2010 Bartlett drew a multitude of emotions
from the Placerville fans and fellow race teams in a season-long rivalry with
former track champion Dan Brown Jr. of Nevada City. The battle was heated both
on and off the track and in the end Bartlett claimed the division title by a
handful of points.
"At the end of the season I didn't really know what my plans were as far as this
year," said Bartlett. "I've always been a driver that likes to travel around and
stir things up year after year, like an outlaw. But I decided my best interest
for 2010 was to defend my championship title. This sport is all about excitement
for the fans and rivalries and I think Placerville is the best place for it."
Last year, the rivalry between Bartlett and Brown began on opening and night and
continued to rise in temperature all season long. During the year Bartlett drove
to 7 feature event wins while Brown stole 3 victories. In heat race competition
Bartlett was a five time winner and Brown won six events. In the end they
finished the year just nine points apart. Only three other drivers won feature
events during the season, including Placerville's John Krehbiel and Mike
Lightfoot along with Auburn favorite Thomas Arbogast. Arbogast was best known
for breaking Bartlett's late season win streak and is a threat to the title this
season according to Bartlett.
"Everyone thought the rivalry between Dan Brown Jr. and myself was heated last
year. I can honestly say that what took place last season will be small talk
compared to the rivalry that is going to develop between Arbogast and myself,"
said Bartlett. "He's a good driver with good equipment and we are a lot alike.
We are aggressive and we don't give an inch. I see a huge rivalry ahead for the
both of us."
Arbogast recently announced his product sponsorship of the Late Model Division.
The owner of Dirt Solutions also stated he would race the entire season in
search of his first Placerville Speedway track championship Arbogast has a
decorated racing career with success in dirt modifieds, wingless sprint cars and
late models. Like Bartlett, Arbogast isn't shy when it comes to stating his
plans. The driver that "shot the sheriff" for one night last year is ready for
the task.
"I am planning on running the entire season at Placerville and going for the
championship," said Arbogast. "Tom Arbogast, Placerville Speedway Late Model
Champion; it just sounds really good to me." While Bartlett and Arbogast are
sure to launch a highly contested rivalry, don’t count out the return of Brown
in the season to come. Brown has reportedly purchased a full late model from the
stable of former champion Fred Jenson and is sure to be right in the heat of
things as he looks to redeem his division crown.
Krehbiel is expected to return as well along with 2009 Rookie of the Year Jay
Norton and Placerville's Forryst Carnett who will race in select events while
attending college. Placerville's Del Trembley is a likely candidate to be
running up front along with veteran fan favorite Dennis Armstrong of El Dorado,
Matt Davis of Auburn and more.
So the expected rivalries have been announced and the competitive Dirt Solutions
Late Model Division returns to Placerville Speedway this Saturday for the green
flag in what is sure to be another dramatic season of door to door racing. Will
Bartlett hold his arms in the sky on the final night this season singing his
famed "Purple People Eater" song in celebration? Or will Dan Brown Jr. return to
the roof of his #5 car in celebration of returning to the helm? Perhaps a new
champion all together will be born as a local boy from with a rich history in
dirt track racing will look to bring the name Arbogast to championship trophy.
It all starts this Saturday night under the management of Handy Racing

The Late Models will be joined Saturday night by the winged 360 sprint cars in
their first weekly Red Hawk Casino Championship event along with the Pure Stocks
that will return for their second night of competition in the season.
In the Sprint Car division, look for defending car owner champion John Taylor to
return with a new gun behind the wheel, Shane Golobic of Fremont as the team
competes for a record fifth championship title.
Former champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn has announced he will campaign for
another championship this year aboard his newly former BC Racing owned #47
sprint car. Former champions Colby Wiesz and Billy Wallace are expected with the
likes of top locals like CJ Humphreys, Scott Russell, Andy Gregg, Jimmy Trulli,
James Sweeney and many more.
In Pure Stock action look for point leader Dennis Armstrong of El Dorado to
return along with recent winner Danielle Clauson of Placerville, Tom Grady of El
Dorado, Jason Englund, Eddie Gardner, Michelle McClure and many more.
The front gates will open at Placerville Speedway at 5 p.m. on Saturday night.
